What teachers have to say about MCCEF

Mitsubishi Cement Corporation Educational Foundation has been such a blessing to our small community and school district.  Their mini-grants have made a huge impact on the learning environment of our schools.  Specifically, where I have spent most of my career as a teacher and administrator, MCCEF has made an impact at the Lucerne Valley Elementary School.

I have received many mini grants from the foundation, but I think my favorite was a very generous grant for the beginning of a Vegetable Garden on campus.  The MCCEF grant made it possible for students in grades 3rd through 6th to create and install water lines, planters, and plant vegetables to begin the garden that has been there for years now.  This garden is an outdoor classroom for all the grade levels to teach science standards and problem solving skills annually.  The garden feeds students during school and families during the summer.

Mitsubishi Cement Corporation Educational Foundation has given hundreds of grants to teachers to enriching learning and is an asset to our community and school district.

The generous Mitsubishi Grant helped thirty AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students attend a field trip to tour Harvey Mudd University, to collaborate in solving mysteries at the Escape Rooms in San Dimas, and to enjoy dinner at Shakey’s Pizza on May 3, 2019. At the time of the field trip, I was teaching 9th grade AVID. Ms. Oyadomari taught the 8th grade AVID students, and Mr. Roehl taught the 7th grade AVID students. We had thirty AVID students attend the amazing field trip which helped foster the reality of college opportunities, provided problem solving team efforts, and culminated with bonding opportunities over dinner.

I have been privileged to teach twenty years at Lucerne Valley Middle/High School. Participating in field trips makes a deep and lasting impact on our students. Most have never set foot on a college campus, participated in an Escape Room, or had the privilege to dine at a restaurant. Field trips help to “cement” the mission that AVID promotes: “to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and student success in a global society.”

Thank you for your generosity to provide academic support through sponsoring AVID field trips.

Sincerely grateful,

MCCEF has been so generous in helping fund our sixth grade class trip to Disneyland for many years now! Without their help, we would not have been able to continue this field trip due to the rising costs. Because of the support from Mitsubishi, our students are able to enjoy riding in a charter bus, wearing matching Disney shirts, and experiencing Disneyland with their friends and classmates. The memories made on the trip are lifelong! Thank you, Mitsubishi!

Sincerely,
