REVISED PROCEDURES FOR

SOLICITING, RECEIVING, EVALUATING AND AWARDING

TEACHER MINI-GRANTS

MITSUBISHI CEMENT CORPORATION EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation

September 30, 2024

Mitsubishi Cement Corporation Educational Foundation (“MCCEF” or the “Foundation”) annually awards Teacher Mini-Grants for the Fall and Spring semesters, in the budgeted amounts of up to Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000) per semester, unless the Board of Directors of the Foundation (the “Board”) approves additional funds.

In 2018, the Board prepared a policy document entitled “Procedures For Soliciting, Receiving, Evaluating and Awarding Teacher Mini-Grants” (the “Prior Mini-Grant Procedures”), which outlined certain criteria and schedules for the solicitation, receipt, evaluation and awarding of Teacher Mini-Grants. The Board now desires to restate the Prior Mini-Grant Procedures as set forth herein, which shall supersede and restate in its entirety the Prior Mini-Grant Procedures.

  • Fall Mini-Grant Applications. Fall Mini-Grant Applications must be submitted between May 1 and June 1 of each year. Applications will be submitted through the Foundation’s online application portal. The Board will review the applicant information and materials for completeness and conformity with the Foundation’s requirements. Only complete applications will be considered at the June Board Meeting.
  • Spring Mini-Grant Applications. Spring Mini-Grant Applications must be submitted between November 1 and December 1 of each year.  Applications will be submitted through the Foundation’s online application portal. The Board will review the applicant information and materials for completeness and conformity with the Foundation’s requirements.  Only complete applications will be submitted for consideration at the December Board Meeting.
  • Mini-Grant Award Procedure. The Foundation will submit the Mini-Grant award decisions and a summary of applicable conditions to the District within ten (10) business days of the Board meetings at which award decisions were made.
  • District Reimbursement Procedure. The District will advance the awarded Mini-Grant amounts to the individual awardees. Reimbursement requests must be submitted by the District to the Foundation by January 31 for Fall Mini-Grants, and by June 30 for Spring Mini-Grants. Awardees shall be responsible for tracking compliance with any conditions to their individual awards, and shall upload written documentation of such compliance to the Foundation’s online portal prior to the applicable reimbursement deadline. Following each reimbursement request deadline, the Board will consider whether the awardees have each satisfied the Foundation’s Mini-Grant conditions. Once the Board has determined whether each awardee has satisfied the conditions, the total reimbursement amount for the applicable award will be sent to the District’s Fiscal Services Clerk in one (1) lump sum disbursal. The District will not receive reimbursement for awardees who failed to satisfy the Foundation’s Mini-Grant conditions.
  • Post-Event Reports. If requested by the Board as a condition of approval, the awardee (or, in the case of a joint application, the lead awardee) will be responsible for submitting a written post-event report with photographs and event materials.
  • Hard Copies Attached. Paper copies of the Foundation’s current online Mini-Grant Application materials are attached for reference.

How We Have Helped

Through the Foundation and its generous sponsors, Lucerne Valley Unified School District students are provided diverse educational experiences in the sciences funded by mini-grants. Mini-grants are awarded in the Spring and Fall to teachers to supplement science education both in and out of the classroom, including field trips, special projects and activities. Over $70,000 has been awarded to fund these experiences.

The MCCEF grant made it possible for students in grades 3rd through 6th to create and install water lines, planters, and plant vegetables to begin the garden that has been there for years now. This garden is an outdoor classroom for all the grade levels to teach science standards and problem solving skills annually. The garden feeds students during school and families during the summer.

MCCEF has been so generous in helping fund our sixth grade class trip to Disneyland for many years now! Without their help, we would not have been able to continue this field trip due to the rising costs.
